Myths About Eyelash Extensions
Myths About Eyelash Extensions or things you have heard that concern you.
In today’s post, let’s discuss and debunk some common myths about eyelash extensions.
Myth #1: All Lash Techs are the same
FALSE: Not all Lash Professionals are the same. Be sure to do your research.
- Ask questions — after all, we are working near your eyes. Be sure that whoever you choose is certified to apply lashes.
- Ask to see pictures of their work. Eyelash extensions applied by a Certified Technician will always look defined, straight, and natural (even with lots of volume). You should have good retention and no lashes should “flip” around and your eyes or lashes should NEVER be uncomfortable!!
- Compare prices. For the most part, the adage “you get what you pay for” is true. Some lash artists overcharge and some undercharge, Certification and Experience play a huge part in pricing. Also why it is so important to look at pictures and customer testimonials.
- DO NOT go to a lash tech that hasn’t taken courses from a reputable company.
Myth 2: Don’t Get Them Wet for 24-48 hours
This one makes me beyond crazy!!!
False: I totally cringe, whenever I hear that a client has been told not to get their extensions wet for 24-48 hours!!
In my opinion, this is the biggest mistake a client can make with new lashes.
Eyelash extensions NEED to be washed, every night. This should be done with a Lash Shampoo that you can make at home.
How long your lash extensions last, is totally related to how well you maintain them.
Extensions will not fall out if you get them wet!!
When you wash them every night, they last longer. If you do not wash them, you risk the extensions falling out prematurely. Unwashed lashes harbor oil, dirt and makeup which breaks down the adhesive.
Myth 3: Eyelash Extensions Are Uncomfortable
The Appointment
Whether it be a Full Set or Lash Fill, the process does not hurt and should never be uncomfortable.
Always research your Lash Professional and pay attention to who you are going to entrust your eyes to!
After Appointment
Your lashes should feel comfortable and weightless. So light, you will forget you even have Lash Extensions.
NOTE: If you ever experience Redness, Itching or Swelling you should always let your Professional know immediately. Allergic to Eyelash Adhesive
Myth 4: Eyelash Extensions Can Destroy Your Natural Eyelashes
False: If your Lash Professional is certified and is using high quality lashes and adhesives, there will be no damage to your natural lashes.
Evaluating your Natural Lashes and applying a sythetic lash that is the proper weight and length is important to ensure you have a safe set of lash extensions. Improper length or weight can cause damage to the natural eyelashes.
NEVER try to remove the eyelash extensions yourself. You can damage your Natural Lashes by pulling the extensions off of your lashes.
Myth 5: Your Natural Lashes will fall out
First things first, your natural eyelashes naturally fall out (or shed) everyday.
You just don’t realize it because your natural lashes are small and fine…..but our natural lashes fall out (or shed) every four to six weeks just like the hairs on our head.
Eyelash extensions only get a bad rap because it’s more noticeable to spot a natural eyelash that has shed when there is an extension on the natural lash.
Shedding is a process that is completely normal, natural and healthy.
Myth 6: Lash Extensions look fake
This is the number 1 concern, I hear from new clients.
Your eyes are as unique as you are. My role as your lash artist is to create a perfect look, for you. When done properly lash extensions can actually reshape your eyes and really make them pop!
I don’t do just one design…Lash Extensions are “customized” to each client. I design a look for you by adding different lengths, volume, and curls. Your eyelash extensions are custom designed to match your own natural eyelash, compliment your eyes and face.
Your appointment will start with you and I deciding how long, thick and full you want your lashes to be.
When applied properly, lash extensions will make an huge difference. You will look and feel pretty. Even when you hop out of bed.. you look put together.
Myth 7: Mascara Can Be Used On Eyelash Extensions
False: Mascara and eyelash extensions do not play well together. Please do not use mascara.
Mascara will stick the extensions together and is impossible to get off.
Mascara will also break down the adhesive which will influence your retention, meaning you will have extensions fall off before the natural lash has shed.
