Why I Don’t Fill Lashes done by other Techncians

Why I Don’t Fill Lashes done by other Techncians

Why I Don’t Fill Lashes Done by Technicians

When clients reach out to me for lash services, they sometimes ask if I can fill lashes that another lash technician has done. Most lash artists suggest that it would be best to remove the existing lashes and apply a new set instead.

It’s important to keep in mind that every Lash Technician has their own unique way of doing things. They use different methods, extensions, and adhesives, and each has varying levels of experience and skill. As a result, most lash artists will not fill lashes that have been done by other Technicians, because of these differences.

Why I don’t fill lashes done by other technicians:

The APPLICATION:

Many technicians struggle with poor isolation and application, which leads to poor Lash Retention. As a result, clients may not want to return to the original technician for future appointments.

Fixing improperly applied lashes is a time-consuming and difficult task. If you are not satisfied with another technician’s work, it’s not as simple as going to another technician to have them fill the existing lashes. Correcting what has already been done, if it can be corrected, is time-consuming and difficult.

The STYLING:

When it comes to styling, it’s important to understand that no two artists are the same and that their styles can vary tremendously.

If I try to follow another artist’s style, it limits my creativity and can make it impossible to achieve the best look for you.

Why I  don’t fill lashes done by other Technicians

Firstly, it is impossible to fill eyelash extensions and at the same time correct styling and application errors.

Secondly, sometimes too much or not enough adhesive has been used, which can result in retention issues that cannot be corrected.

There may be application errors and unsafe extensions, such as incorrect isolation of the natural lash, where some extensions have been applied to multiple natural lashes instead of being placed on one individual natural lash.

The synthetic lashes used may be the wrong length, diameter, or weight, resulting in an unsafe set and an undesirable look.

Finally, the natural lashes may have been severely damaged due to improper technique and styling, leaving them thin, fragile, patchy, and traumatized.

Is it Safe to Remove Lash Extensions Yourself?

Is it Safe to Remove Lash Extensions Yourself?

Need to Remove Lash Extensions?

Because you want to take a break or want to start fresh with another Lash Artist, you may be tempted to try and remove your Lash Extensions at home.

Lash Artists do offer Lash Removal Services and these appointments are usually about 30 minutes.  It is not only a quick visit, it is also painless. Please don’t try to remove them yourself.

Do You Need to take a Break?

It is not uncommon to worry about the health of your natural lashes and wonder if you need to take a break.

As long as the lashes have been applied by a certified Lash Professional using the correct length, weight and thickness for your natural lashes, they can be worn indefinitely. There really is no need to take a break and as a matter of fact, some of my clients, have worn extensions for over 10 years with no issue what so ever.

Is It Safe To Remove Eyelash Extensions At Home?

No, it is not safe to remove your Lash Extensions at home.  You should always have them removed by a Professional.

  • Professionally trained and certified  lash artists  have the correct tools and training to remove extensions properly and safely.
  • Lash Professionals have  the knowledge of which professional remover to use and how long to leave the remover on for.
  • Removers should only be used by Lash Professionals that have experience and training.

Removing Lash Extensions Safely

Because Lash Extensions are bonded onto each individual natural lash, if you try to pull the extensions off, you are going to pull out your natural lashes as well.

Returning to the salon that did your lashes is the safest solution.  But,  if that makes you uncomfortable simply make an appointment with another Lash Professional.  A Lash Professional will always ensure that your sythetic lashes are removed safely and without damage to your natural lashes.

Time Required to Remove Extensions

In most cases, removing Lash Extensions is a quick service that is about 30-45 minutes.

Lash Shampoo for Lash Extensions

Lash Shampoo for Lash Extensions

Lash Shampoo

If you don’t have Lash Extensions, this Lash Shampoo recipe is amazing for Natural Lashes as well.

Lash Shampoo Recipe for Lash Extensions or Natural Lashes - cg lash studio, regina sk

Lash Shampoo Recipe:

It is not necessary to purchase an expensive Lash Shampoo or Cleanser from your Lash Professional.

You can make this Lash Shampoo recipe at home for pennies and this is all you need!

Why Washing your eyelash extensions is important.

Long Lasting Eyelash Extensions or Great Retention,

happens when you keep your eyelash extensions clean, everyday!

What you will need for your Lash Shampoo:

  • 2/3 Water
  • 1/3 Baby shampoo – (Johnson & Johnson – tearless)
  • Small bottle
    • An emty prescription bottle works great.

Notes:

You “must” bath or wash your Lashes EVERY night.  Now, with that said, it doesn’t have to be right before you go to bed.  When you are home for the night, give your lashes a quick bath.

    • Volume Lashes are very unforgiving if they are not washed every night.  That lash line and base of extensions need to be free of oil and makeup

If you are spending a ton of time washing your Eyelash Extensions, you are doing to much.  All that is required is a quick once over.  I like to go across the lash line and a few swipes down the lashes.

    • After your quick Lash Bath, be sure to rinse and pat dry.
    • You wash your lashes every night, including the day you have them done.

Fluffy Brush – to clean Lash Extensions

I need to emphasize how important a fluffy brush is.

A disposable mascara brush or your finger… WILL NOT clean your Lash Extensions properly.

        • You need a “FLUFFY” brush
        • Each night – dip your fluffy brush into your Lash Shampoo and run the brush across lash line.
        • Rinse and pat dry

      Makeup & Eyeshadow

If you have makeup or eyeshadow on your eyes, this tip will help.

Go ahead and wear it.  But, before you clean your eyelash extensions, remove the makeup or eyeshadow first.

If you don’t clean your eyelid first, the makeup and shadow will run into your lash line.  Glittery or Mineral eyeshadow is a huge problem if it settles into your lash line because it is impossible to get it off once that happens.

Best way to remove.  Take a q-tip and gently remove all makeup from your eyelid before bathing your Eyelash Extensions.

      Lash Extensions Don’t Fall Off

      Lash Extensions Don’t Fall Off

      Lash Extensions Don’t Fall Off

Well let me rephrase that. When Lash Extensions are applied properly by a Certified Lash Professional, they don’t just Fall Off.

Lash Extensions are attached to one natural eyelash.  Your natural eyelash continues to grow, move and shed, even when it has a Lash Extension attached to it.

      Eyelash Extensions Don't Fall Off

Lash extensions fall with the natural lash

This above picture is a client’s lashes at her 3 week fill.

Notice the Natural Lash and the Volume Fan on that lash.

3 weeks ago, that volume fan was placed 1mm from the skin.  In 3 weeks the natural lash grew more than 9mm and still the extension stayed attached to the natural lash.  That is what is supposed to happen.  An extension should not fall off  before the natural lash it is attached to.

If the natural lash had shed before her 3 week fill,  both the lash and extension would have fallen together.

You should see a Natural Lash Attached

When you see a fallen extension, you should see a natural lash attached to it.

If you see a lot of fallen Lash Extensions without a natural lash attached, that’s a problem and it means there is something in  your daily routine breaking down the adhesive.  Be sure to read:  Caring for your Eyelash Extensions

      Lash Fill

I giggle when clients say…this fill won’t take long… I’ve barely lost any lashes.  You might not have noticed any lashes shed, but I can guarantee you that your natural lashes have grown.

During your Lash fill,  I remove any outgrown eyelash extensions and replace them with new Lash Extensions.   This is important because outgrown lashes can become top heavy due to the growth of the natural lash.  Outgrown lashes can twist and turn  and put strain on the natural lash.

I also lash all the new lashes that have grown since your last appointment.

Hope you enjoyed this post.  Many clients coming from other Technicians “think” that Lash Extensions should “just fall off”.

All About My Adhesive – Eyelash Extensions

All About My Adhesive – Eyelash Extensions

I’m so Proud of my Eyelash Extension Adhesive

At the start of my career I made a promise to always provide my clients with the highest quality adhesives available.

Because of that promise, a lot of time goes into researching what Eyelash Extension Adhesive is the best for my clients.

Eyelash Extension Adhesive Inventory requires Advance Planning

My clients enjoy  long lasting Eyelash Extensions and Allergic Reactions are  rare.

      • The adhesives I use, are some of the most expensive adhesives in the industry.  They  can’t be  purchased from Local Suppliers.
      • Extreme temperatures can affect the quality of Lash Adhesive.  Because of this, I order in the Spring and Fall.
      • Switching brands or formulations is not something I do.
      • At all times I stock, at minimum a 6 month supply. This to ensure that I never run out or have to react to supplier issues or shortages.
      • Humidity and Temperature can greatly affect Lash Adhesive. Because of this,  I personally vacuum seal my inventory of adhesive.  My adhesives are protected  from Humidity before it is opened and used on my clients.
      • Adhesive inventory is stored in a temperature controlled environment.
      • Lash Room (enviroment) is monitored the entire time you are with me to ensure the adhesive is operating as it should.  When you come in you will see:
        • humidifiers
        • dehumidifiers
        • heater
        • guages to monitor the environment

      My Eyelash Extension Adhesives

For clients that  have had an Allergic Reaction to Lash Adhesive.

It’s quite common to get calls from clients who have been to other Lash Technicians and have developed an allergy to Adhesive.

Introduced to my clients early 2023 and I am so proud to announce that these clients have been able to wear Extensions again.

        • Extremely mild fumes

      Lash Shedding Season

      Lash Shedding Season

      WHEN IS LASH SHEDDING SEASON?

It’s offically Fall and a perfect time  to talk about the dreaded Lash Shedding Season.

Of course we all know that the hair on our body goes through a cycle where it grows and then sheds. Did you know that Eyelashes Shed too?

We shed our human hair in preparation for changes in temperature or season changes (Spring and Fall)

      Lash Shedding Season

      It’s Temporary

With Spring and Fall the temperatures change and you may notice your eyelashes shedding at a faster rate.

Not everyone has a seasonal shed.  If you have been experiencing a Season Shed, it is temporary.  Generally after 6 weeks everything should go back to normal.

How Long Do Lash Extensions Last when it’s not a Season Shed?

How does it affect Lash Extensions?

A Lash Extension is placed onto a Natural Lash.  So, when our natural lash sheds, the extension goes with the Natural Lash.

The number of lashes we shed is individual from person to person because we all have a different growth and shed cycle.

There is no doubt about it, Season Lash Shedding is more than annoying!!!

During this time, you will want to keep your regular lash fill appointments to help keep them looking full. Never hesitate to call me and book an earlier fill if a shed is severe and you are not liking how your lashes are looking.

      BOOK ONLINE

      or text me at 306.535.7787

“My lashes never fell out this much before I got lash extensions!”

They actually did, but before you had Eyelash Extensions, a “Shedding Season” really went unnoticed.

Natural lashes are finer than an Eyelash Extension, so we don’t really notice a natural lash laying around when it sheds.

When you have dark, fluffy, full lash extensions on natural lashes, it is more noticeable when a couple of them shed!   If you are not aware of natural lash shedding, seeing fallen extensions can be very upsetting.

Never hesitate to call me and book an earlier fill if a shed is severe and you are not liking how your lashes are looking during a seasonal shed,

What can I do to stop Season Lash Shedding?

A seasonal shed is out of our control and affects everyone differently.  You can’t slow down the natural lash cycle or prevent a Seasonal Lash Shed.

It is a natural process that is temporary.

If you experience a Seasonal Shed you might find changing your 3 week fill to a 2 week fill helpful in maintaining the fullness of your lash extensions.

      Caring for your Eyelash Extensions

      Caring for your Eyelash Extensions

You’ve got brand new eyelash extensions and you will love them from day 1.  Caring for your Eyelash Extensions will help to keep your lashes looking their best.

Here are a few tips on Caring for your Eyelash Extensions.

If you are a client of mine you will have heard me say, that there are only 2 things that will make your Eyelash Extensions fall off before their time.  Those 2 things are Oil and Friction.

Wash your Eyelash Extensions Every Night

Clean lash extensions last longer.  If you have been told in the past to avoid water, by another technician, this is bad advice.  Your lash extensions will fall off prematurely when you avoid washing them.

Understand when and how to wash your eyelash extensions:  READ MORE

      Don’t rub your eyes

This is truly  has  to be the toughest tip of  all my tips.  We don’t realize how much we rub our eyes until we are told we can’t.

Rubbing your eyes is a big no no, as it will cause them to fall prematurely. Rubbing  can break the bond between your natural lashes and your eyelash extensions.

      Don’t sleep on your Face

Sleeping on your face pushed into your pillow can cause your extensions to fall out more quickly.

Try to sleep on your back.

TIP:  Whether you sleep on your face, back or side.  Invest in a silk pillow case.  You can pick them up really cheap on Amazon.  Remember me saying an enemy was friction?

Only use makeup and  face products that are oil free

Now this is not to say that you have to give up all the products you love.  Just keep products with oil away from your lashes.

      Brush your eyelashes

For each appointment you have, you will leave with the lash brush I used on your lashes.  You can brush through your lashes whenever you like.  For sure you will want to brush them first thing when you wake up and probably before you go to bed.

Brushing your lashes, keeps them looking nice and neat.  Don’t be afraid to brush them, they aren’t going to fall off.

      Don’t use waterproof mascara

Actually you shouldn’t be using mascara at all.  But for sure no waterproof mascara or  any waterproof makeup.  I always say, if it is hard to get off, don’t se it.

Waterproof mascara is hard on both eyelash extensions and natural lashes.  The scrubbing required to remove waterproof make-up will damage your eyelash extensions and traumitize natural lashes.

Once you have your lashes done, you will find that you don’t need mascara.  Just make sure that your eyeline and eyeshadows aren’t waterproof.

      Caring for Your Eyelash Extensions

      Most important tip!

Don’t forget  to maintain your fabulous lashes, you need to get your lash extensions filled on a regular basis.

Be sure to book regular appointments with my online calendaring system or by feel free to text me at 306.535.7787.

      Eyelash Extensions Are Falling Out

      Eyelash Extensions Are Falling Out

What does it mean if your eyelash extensions are falling out?

My clients do not experience bad retention or their eyelash extensions don’t just fall off.

The majority of my clients can’t even believe it is time for a fill when they come in.

With proper safe application and at home maintenance, the picture below is what my clients lashes look like before their 3 week fill.

I decided wanted to write this post, because I have alot of gals calling who have had their lashes done by another technician and they are having eyelashes fall out within days.  This is NOT NORMAL!

It would be so upsetting to have your lashes done and they don’t last.

Seeing your extensions on your pillow or in the sink can definitely upset most clients.

Let’s take a look at some common causes for bad retention or why eyelash extensions would be falling out to quickly.

HOW LONG DO LASH EXTENSIONS LAST?

Eyelash extensions can last as long as the growth cycle of the natural lash. Extensions are attached to a natural lash and when the natural lash sheds the extension will go with that lash.

It is very important that you understand lash extensions are not permanent.  We can’t defy nature.

If you are finding that your retention or your eyelash extensions are falling with no natural lash attached, the following information will be helpful.

Good Post to read:  How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last?

      Natural Shedding

Alot of people don’t realize that we actually shed our natural lashes.  Shedding occurs when the natural lash has completed its life cycle. Several natural lashes will reach the final stage at the same time and they will all shed as a group.

When you shed a Lash Extension and there is a Natural Lash attached, this is normal.

      EYELASH SHEDDING

Each eye naturally can shed between 2 – 3 lashes per day.  That’s why I recommend lash fills every 3 weeks to keep your lashes looking their best and fullest.

TRIVIA:  your eyes do not shed the same.  One eye can shed more than the other and that is normal.

      THE SEASON

You will hear Lash Technicians talk about “the” fall shed, “the” spring shed.  I never believed in this theory when I first started, but as an experienced Lash Artist, I can tell you, this is a thing.

There are different seasons where we shed more than normal.

      Read about  Seasonal Shed.

The good thing, it doesn’t last long.

      EXAMINE YOUR LASHES

We know that natural lashes naturally shed every day.  Before eyelash extensions, we don’t usually notice when a natural lash falls.  We do notice when a lash extension is attached to a natural lash because it is more obvious.    So get up close and personal with that lash on your pillow or in your sink.

If you can see the 1 single natural lash attached to an extension, it is a natural part of the cycle.

If a few extensions fall without a natural lash attached, one of the areas below could be the reason.

      Proper and Safe Application

Not all Lash Professionals are the same.  Before you select your Lash Artist or Technician be sure to do your research.

Eyelash extensions that are not properly and safely applied will not last.

This post will interest you:  CHEAP EYELASH EXTENSIONS

      Lash Room Environment

When you come to see me you will see humidifiers, de-humidifiers etc.

The Lash Room enviornment is so important.  You can have the most talented Lash Artist in the world and if her temperature and humidity in her room is not what it should be, she will have a problem applying the extensions and retention will also be a problem.

It is so important, if I can’t get the environment where it should be, I will cancel a full day of clients.  It doesn’t happen often that I have to cancel appointments but temperature and humidity is key to proper application and safe application and why my eyelash extensions last as long as they do!

      Adhesive

When I began my career I made a promise that I would only use the highest quality products available to me and eyelash adhesive is the #1 most important product other than the lashes of course.

There are a ton of eyelash extension adhesives on the market.   The bonding life of adhesives range can from 1 week to 8 weeks.

My adhesive has the  longest bonding life that I can find.  If your technician choses to use an adhesive with a shorter life span, or a cheap adhesive, your lash set will be short lived as well.

      My Adhesive

      Medical Conditions

These are a few medical conditions that can have a negative effect on the growth, shedding and overall health of your eyelashes.  I am not a medical professional and cannot diagnose any medical condition.  If you are concerned that you may be experiencing a medical condition, you should always consult your doctor.

      • Trichotillomania Tangle.  Also called hair-pulling disorder.
      • Thyroid Condition. Eyelash loss can occur with both hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) and hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid).
      • Alopecia Areata – An autoimmune disorder that often results in unpredictable hair loss.
      • Blepharitis and Chemotherapy can also have a negative effect the growth, shedding and overall health of your lashes.

      Diet

When you have a healthy balanced diet you will also have healthy lashes.

      Contact with Oils

Any kind of oil is the one ingredient that is the #1 enemy to eyelash extensions.

This includes natural oils produced by the body and ingredients in products used on your face.

Oils will reduce retention of the eyelash extensions to the natural lash and cause your extensions to fall prematurely.

Hands Off!  Avoid Petting or Touching

Try not touch your lashes. Lahses are not “this” delicate but some clients develop a habit of constantly touching their lashes throughout the day.  Any oils on your fingers will transfer to your lashes.

      Lash Growth Serums

I am a fan of Lash Serums because they condition your natural lashes and help your natural lashes to grow longer, stronger and thicker. Most Lash Serums are eyelash extension safe but always check with your professional before you add one to your beauty routine.

You only want to use the serum once a day because you will experience more shedding if your lash cycle is quickened. I will always tell you if I want you to decrease to every 2nd day at your fill.

      Mascara

The #1 beauty product that I always recommend you avoid whether you have natural lashes or eyelash extensions is waterproof mascara.  Waterproof mascara can damage your natural lashes.

Many mascaras contain ingredients that cause buildup on your lash and lash line.

When mascara is applied to eyelash extensions, the ingredients will break down the adhesive and weaken the bond.  If you use mascara with eyelash extensions you will experience premature shedding, period.

Premature Shedding:  Eyelash Extensions lift from the natural lash and fall off

      Not Washing Your Lashes

It is essential to keep your lashes clean and wash them every day!

When lashes are not clean, the lash hair follicle can get clogged with dirt and debris. Clogged follicles cause lashes to shed and if left untreated can lead to stunting new lash growth.

      How to Wash Your Lashes.

It’s not necessary to purchase expensive Lash Shampoos or cleansers.  You can make your own Lash Shampoo, for pennies.

      Sleeping and Rubbing your Eyes

If  sleep with your face down in the pillow, expect some of your lashes to fall. Sleeping on your back is ideal.

Rubbing your eyes is a big no no.  If you rub your eyes expect some of your lashes to fall.

      Wash Your Eyelash Extensions

      Wash Your Eyelash Extensions

When should you wash your lash extensions?

I can’t stress how important it is to Wash Your Lash Extensions EVERY NIGHT.

Your days are busy and during the day your lashes have accumulated facial oil, dust, dirt and makeup.

Improper washing or avoiding washing all together will cause problems resulting in your lashes not lasting as long as they should.

Not washing daily can also lead to poor lash health.

In today’s post I will be talking about why clean lash extensions last longer.

      • If you have been told in the past to avoid water, by another technician, this is bad advice.
        • Your lash extensions will fall off prematurely if you don’t bath them every night.
      • You should wash your lash extensions after activities such as swimming, working out and wearing sunscreen.
          • Chlorine, salt, perspiration and oils should be removed immediately from lash extensions to maintain the integrity of the lash adhesive.

        Unwashed Lashes

When you look in the mirror, unwashed lashes don’t look bad.  When I look at unwashed lashes under my lamp and with  magnifying glasses on, the build up of oil, dirt and makeup is obvious.

Dirty Lashes | Photo Credit: Carmen Palmiste

When you don’t wash your lashes daily, dead skin cells, dirt, makeup and oil build up on your lash line quickly.  This build up will  break down the adhesive over time. When the lash adhesive starts to break down you are going to have your extensions fall off prematurely instead of lasting the entire life of the natural lash cycle and falling out when the natural lash is shed.

Benefits of washing your lashes daily.

When you wash your lashes correctly between appointments, you are going to  return with more lashes left compared to clients who don’t wash daily. Most clients  that look after their lashes are able to go 3 weeks between fills and come in with 50%  – 75% lashes left.

        Lash Washing – DO

        • Wash your lash extensions every night.  Including the night of your appointment.
        • Avoid all products that contain oil,  around or on your eye area. This includes:
          • Facial Cleansers, moisturisers, cleansing oils, aromatherapy oils, spray toners, coconut/rosehip oils, eye creams.
          • Shampoo and conditioner.
        • Lash Shampoo Recipe

        Lash Washing –  DON’TS:

        • Do NOT use makeup remover wipes around your lash extensions. Makeup remover wipes are full of oils, glycols and emolients and they will cause your lash extensions to fall off prematurely.
        • Do NOT use cleansing waters like micellar. Only use products that are safe for lash extensions.
        • Do NOT use face cloths, sponges, makeup pads, cotton buds or other items on  your lash extensions. You don’t want anything tuggig at your lash extensions that could cause damage or premature lash loss.
        • Do NOT rub your eyes aggresively while washing. I recommend using a soft blush brush.  Dip the brush into your cleanser and brush across lash line and down lashes.  Be sure to rinse.
          • BE GENTLE.  Rigorous rubbing will cause premature lash loss and you can damage your lash extensions and natural lashes.

Can I get Eyelash Extensions Wet?

When can I get my Lashes Wet?  Is one of the most asked questions.

Many technicians instruct their clients not to get their Lash Extensions wet for 24-48 hours.  There is no way I could go 24-48 hours without getting my lashes wet.

So I am here to tell you…..

        YES!!!

Of course you can get your eyelash extensions wet the same day you have them done.

Well… if they are done by me you can.

If you’re still waiting 24-48 hours to get your lash extensions wet after your appointment, then I have to  tell you – you’re living in the past my darling!

I control the bond and cure of your lash adhesive, a technique I was trained on years ago.   I am 4x Certified so I have lots of tricks up my sleeve..lol

        Salt Water – Tip

        Yes go ahead and swim.

When you are in salt water, remember that you will have the urge to rub your lashes – salt water can sting.  Try not to rub your eyes.

After your day in the sun….. simply rinse your lashes with cool water to remove any residue from the salt water.

Can I bath them the same day I have them done?

Yes!  I recommend you give your lashes a bath the same night you have them done.
