Lash Shampoo Recipe:

It is not necessary to purchase an expensive Lash Shampoo or Cleanser from your Lash Professional.

You can make this Lash Shampoo recipe at home for pennies and this is all you need!

Why Washing your eyelash extensions is important.

Long Lasting Eyelash Extensions or Great Retention,

happens when you keep your eyelash extensions clean, everyday!

What you will need for your Lash Shampoo:

  • 2/3 Water
  • 1/3 Baby shampoo – (Johnson & Johnson – tearless)
  • Small bottle
    • An emty prescription bottle works great.

Notes:

You “must” bath or wash your Lashes EVERY night.  Now, with that said, it doesn’t have to be right before you go to bed.  When you are home for the night, give your lashes a quick bath.

    • Volume Lashes are very unforgiving if they are not washed every night.  That lash line and base of extensions need to be free of oil and makeup

If you are spending a ton of time washing your Eyelash Extensions, you are doing to much.  All that is required is a quick once over.  I like to go across the lash line and a few swipes down the lashes.

    • After your quick Lash Bath, be sure to rinse and pat dry.
    • You wash your lashes every night, including the day you have them done.

Fluffy Brush – to clean Lash Extensions

I need to emphasize how important a fluffy brush is.

A disposable mascara brush or your finger… WILL NOT clean your Lash Extensions properly.

        • You need a “FLUFFY” brush
        • Each night – dip your fluffy brush into your Lash Shampoo and run the brush across lash line.
        • Rinse and pat dry

      Makeup & Eyeshadow

If you have makeup or eyeshadow on your eyes, this tip will help.

Go ahead and wear it.  But, before you clean your eyelash extensions, remove the makeup or eyeshadow first.

If you don’t clean your eyelid first, the makeup and shadow will run into your lash line.  Glittery or Mineral eyeshadow is a huge problem if it settles into your lash line because it is impossible to get it off once that happens.

Best way to remove.  Take a q-tip and gently remove all makeup from your eyelid before bathing your Eyelash Extensions.

      Wash Your Eyelash Extensions

      Wash Your Eyelash Extensions

When should you wash your lash extensions?

I can’t stress how important it is to Wash Your Lash Extensions EVERY NIGHT.

Your days are busy and during the day your lashes have accumulated facial oil, dust, dirt and makeup.

Improper washing or avoiding washing all together will cause problems resulting in your lashes not lasting as long as they should.

Not washing daily can also lead to poor lash health.

In today’s post I will be talking about why clean lash extensions last longer.

      • If you have been told in the past to avoid water, by another technician, this is bad advice.
        • Your lash extensions will fall off prematurely if you don’t bath them every night.
      • You should wash your lash extensions after activities such as swimming, working out and wearing sunscreen.
          • Chlorine, salt, perspiration and oils should be removed immediately from lash extensions to maintain the integrity of the lash adhesive.

        Unwashed Lashes

When you look in the mirror, unwashed lashes don’t look bad.  When I look at unwashed lashes under my lamp and with  magnifying glasses on, the build up of oil, dirt and makeup is obvious.

When you don’t wash your lashes daily, dead skin cells, dirt, makeup and oil build up on your lash line quickly.  This build up will  break down the adhesive over time. When the lash adhesive starts to break down you are going to have your extensions fall off prematurely instead of lasting the entire life of the natural lash cycle and falling out when the natural lash is shed.

Benefits of washing your lashes daily.

When you wash your lashes correctly between appointments, you are going to  return with more lashes left compared to clients who don’t wash daily. Most clients  that look after their lashes are able to go 3 weeks between fills and come in with 50%  – 75% lashes left.

        Lash Washing – DO

        • Wash your lash extensions every night.  Including the night of your appointment.
        • Avoid all products that contain oil,  around or on your eye area. This includes:
          • Facial Cleansers, moisturisers, cleansing oils, aromatherapy oils, spray toners, coconut/rosehip oils, eye creams.
          • Shampoo and conditioner.
        • Lash Shampoo Recipe

        Lash Washing –  DON’TS:

        • Do NOT use makeup remover wipes around your lash extensions. Makeup remover wipes are full of oils, glycols and emolients and they will cause your lash extensions to fall off prematurely.
        • Do NOT use cleansing waters like micellar. Only use products that are safe for lash extensions.
        • Do NOT use face cloths, sponges, makeup pads, cotton buds or other items on  your lash extensions. You don’t want anything tuggig at your lash extensions that could cause damage or premature lash loss.
        • Do NOT rub your eyes aggresively while washing. I recommend using a soft blush brush.  Dip the brush into your cleanser and brush across lash line and down lashes.  Be sure to rinse.
          • BE GENTLE.  Rigorous rubbing will cause premature lash loss and you can damage your lash extensions and natural lashes.
